Incubation of collective ownership,  purchasing and maintenance programs for distressed multi-unit (rental) properties

While the current area real estate market now has a variety of expensive condo projects as well as some level of property refurbishment (largely lower-cost "gut rehabs" with lower-grade materials),  a large portion of housing stock remains unoccupied and in various states of distress.   A notable portion of occupied buildings also are in distressed condition,  with notable unaddressed maintenance and other issues.

In one of the US's coldest winter climates,  buildings generally do not have insulation "between brick and lathe,"  creating both disproportionate financial and environmental costs-- many of which are borne by the public.

Against the backdrop of a national housing crisis,   buildings near the center of a major city sit empty.

We propose a local entity which guides,  incubates and mentors ownership,  restoral and renewal of this housing stock into a vibrant community--  by local individuals/families,  collective entities such as current renters banding together and acquiring financing,   as well as the immigration of individuals outside the community who wish to restore housing and become a part of this unique community.
